Web3 Excitement Features Among Trends Reflected In Biometrics Activity - AI Summary
The company raised $50 million to bring that product, along with the rest of its suite of tools for financial services, which include a decentralized exchange, NFT Marketplace, and Metaverse SDK. Amazon's second try to have a civil suit filed against it for alleged biometric data privacy violations thrown out with the same argument were not appreciated by the federal court judge hearing the case. Former FTC Acting Director Daniel Kaufman tells Biometric Update in an interview that the U.S. Federal Government is likely to take action on data privacy soon, but his former agency is not likely to play a lead role. Presentation attacks based on latent variable evolution algorithms could return matches to multiple enrolled biometric templates, posing "a severe security threat." An appraisal of SenseTime's outlook says facial recognition and AI in electric vehicles will generate major revenue, and until then the company has plenty of cash on hand from its recent IPO.

RealNetworks wins facial recognition and AI analytics contract with US Air Force
Safr from RealNetworks has earned its third Small Business Research Innovation (SBIR) deal from the United States Air Force (USAF) to enable the extension of Safr AI-powered analytics, including facial recognition, to unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). The UGVs would be used to reduce risks in perimeter protection and domestic emergency medical services (EMS) search and rescue missions. In a news release, the company said the contract will help improve its platform to be able to operate on an NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier-based UGV system, with the goal of reducing the risk service members face as the Safr-enhanced UGVs will be able to detect unauthorized persons in restricted areas with face biometrics. "As a USAF military working dog handler, I have employed canines in various environments fulfilling the multi-use role of detection and deterrence. The ability to utilize UGV systems to augment K9 teams during work/rest cycles, or as an additional force, broadens security in-depth and allows operations to continue unhindered," said Air Force Technical Sergeant Dustin Cain, Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Police Services, 366th Security Forces Squadron, Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho.

Facial recognition and AI could be used to identify rare genetic disorders
A facial recognition scan could become part of a standard medical checkup in the not-too-distant future. Researchers have shown how algorithms can help identify facial characteristics linked to genetic disorders, potentially speeding up clinical diagnoses. In a study published this month in the journal Nature Medicine, US company FDNA published new tests of their software, DeepGestalt. Just like regular facial recognition software, the company trained their algorithms by analyzing a dataset of faces. FDNA collected more than 17,000 images covering 200 different syndromes using a smartphone app it developed named Face2Gene.

Facial recognition and AI used in China to send FINES to jaywalkers via text messages
Jaywalkers in one Chinese city will soon receive an instant notification and a fine as soon as they violate the rules, thanks to a new Big Brother-style scheme. Officials are looking to upgrade an existing system that uses artificial intelligence and facial recognition technology to name and shame offenders. Images of pedestrians crossing the road against red traffic lights are already beamed onto large LED screens. Now, the government is consulting with mobile carriers and social media firms to add the extra deterrent for the region's 12 million people. Jaywalkers in one Chinese city will soon receive an instant notification as soon as they violate the rules, thanks to a new spy scheme.
